The Houlden Report 3-28-2013
You know i feel a bit juberant on one hand and a little less excited on the other. As of late,I have been on twitter alot and have been noticed by some pretty big folks! I recently got my old Apple IIe running again and that has taken notice from many who have been cruising twitter. The longer i spent researching that fateful computer, the more i was amazed at some facts.
For as slow as the computer was (and for the lack of an internal hard drive),the boot time was only 7 seconds.Sure,I admit that its Antiquated and really senseless to have a computer where there is no such thing as a mouse. However, the Apple II line was the first personal computer.the line started in 1977 with the apple II and 1983 with the Apple II GS and Apple IIe (for extended).Reason why was the Apple III and the Apple Lisa didn't sell too well and the Mac which began selling, hadn't caught on yet.The Apple II line of computers kept Apple afloat in 1984 during the computer "shake up" era.
The 1984 Mac is my ideal PC with a gui to go along with my apple IIe.If I manage to get my hands on one,I think i would flip my wig on it.These Models i mentioned are the computers that made the industry of personal computing with Microprocessors.Sure, they did not have hard drives at that time (hard disk drives were optional). However there are still thousands of programs and games for both, still being sold or given away.
I don't know about most folks but i still have my Mac OS system software (OS 7.0.1) and I am aching to use it...Yes Apple Mac and Apple II lines of computers were at that time giving IBM PC and IBM PC JR a run for the money because IBM stepped into the game a bit late. So,folks were seeing that "Big Blue" was taking the market shares by storm and folks were wanting an alternatum. So,They went for Apple Mackintosh or Apple II,Apple IIe,Apple IIGS,And the Apple IIc computers.
The model that had the very first GUI was the Apple IIGS and then the Lisa before Mac was ever conceived. That was a good thing because when the Mac came around, the GUI was perfected and came away with some awesome fonts, mouse, graphics, etc. The coolest thing was the Mac had a 5" screen built in and a carrying handle on top so you can take it anywhere!. THAT was genious!Who would have thought of it?... only Steve Jobs!
Meanwhile when everyone else was plugging away at the IBM PC ,PC jr,XT 8080,(or like my first computer) XT 8088,Apple was making headway into the market. They made a computer that out performed (and in most cases) outlasted IBM's Offerings.
Oddly enough, what originally started as a garage hobby with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac creating the Apple I (computer kits),grew into the largest company in the world. When i sit at my Biege Apple II computer, and turn it on.. I see a long haired Steve Jobs standing over a long haired Steve Wozniac, watching him program code into the Apple II's integer basic and smiling.
Another lessor known fact was during the creation of the Apple II and the integer Basic program, Bill gates was asked to join and write the Basic Interpreter for the new Applesoft Basic (which is installed with the proDOS 8 program (Applesoft being Apple and Microsoft pseudenm meaning they teamed together for the basic program).in fact,Bill gates did own a mac.
anyway so much for MacDreams..lol this will conclude this HOULDEN report for 3-28-2013 see ya later on..
