The HOULDEN REPORT for 2-5-2024
The tech confusion and recalling old school tech ...
I know it has been two years since my last post. However,My Dilemma still is an issue. All of this Modern technology (solid state drives and ram) is just way too much. I recall a time when Motorola had the brick cell phone that only reached a mile,The Pocket Fisherman by Ronco,The Microwave oven by Sharp (I still have mine, the first turntable microwave) and 10 speed Bikes were new.
I was 12 in 1972 and now I am 63 about to turn 64 (52 years ago). Sure,I Love Tech but I also feel like it is on overkill. Let's take smart homes for example. Yes it is convenient to have everything at your fingertips. Having all your appliances digitally talking to one another,Cameras in and around the house, and water and power digitally controlled via wifi. The downside is that wifi can be hacked at which time the whole house would lay exposed to anyone with nefarious ideas.
I recall some of the tech from the 70s that i dealt with growing up.I recall the panasonic ring AM radios and the Montgomery Ward AM/FM Headset radio lol my ears were warmed by that one while waiting for the school bus early in the mornings. That was one radio that I Loved dearly. this was also a time when we were not allowed to bring calculators to class too. I had a Texas Instruments pocket calculator that i loved. There was also a panasonic black and white television I loved too that had a "Flipper" Digital Clock built in and it was attached to a pole that stood from the floor to the ceiling.the pole allowed the TV to swing back and forth at any angle, the clock allowed the TV to turn on or off at any given time,by itself. It still had a rotary dial and UHF tuner and mine also had a AM/FM Radio too. They also came in many colors (for the 70s) Green,Red,Blue,White,Black and Yellow.
lmao if we were to run one today you will have to have a converter for the channels and a digital antenna to pick up the stations.
this is the TV i use for watching Videos on my VCR... classic... it is a battery operated set for camping and everything. The other two were my apple IIe and it still works.
I also have a few Older computers and gadgets too that i still use...
so yes these still work... and i wont ditch any of them. they work better then what is out there today...
so yes as you see I still use these.... so yes These have turned out to be worth more for longevity and quality then we ever thought back in the day.I think i will end todays report and then blog another report tomorrow... for now, this is the end of todays report.
