The ZyXEL IEE 802.11b/g wireless buscard model G-162 US

This card was designed For windows 98,ME,XP,and Vista. If you are looking to use this card with any LINUX apps,Look again. It only works at times with Ubuntu 7.0 and hardly with 8.0 and 8.10 The many folks who have attempted to work the card with their versions of Ubuntu with failure. There is no linux drivers or linux support for this card.I have checked with ZyXEL and with linux users and that Is the only conclusion I can clearly make on the card. This Card was originally sold in 1997 and is still in use. There is absolutly no linux support for this item.Manufacturers only post Microsoft Windows compatibility, not linux.
Why Do you ask this when Linux kernel is free? Well, another conclusion I came up with was Money.Microsoft has Money and the manufacturers Want Money. So they Do What Sells Product.Honestly,It is My contention that Most Manufacturers don't care about The "Little Guy" who has no "BigTime" cash to throw around. The major cash in is this : "if you want a quality OS that is easy to get drivers for gadgets, get Microsoft".However,If You want a reliable OS that (with a little work on your part) is reliable and free,Get a good LINUX distro and then stick with it.With LINUX,You get an OS that you OWN and that doesn't have to "Phone home" on you and won't get Hacked because you theoretically can't hack a UNIX code.
So,In the cyberworld, looking for a more functional OS that is Easier to use without it "Phoning Home" on you,You will find that mostly all drivers for all the little gadgets that you loved to use under window$,will not work (or hardly function) under any other OS (Linux,SUN,GEOWORKS,Etc.)other then Microsoft's products.
Honestly,I would Love Microsoft better if they would just open up their stronghold on drivers to the open source community a bit more then they have had.Right now,the only drivers for devices that were designed for window$ 98 and ME and was discontinued. Those Items work great in linux. As for anything NEW,Forget it.Even the Linux comunity has issues with the new devices that do not work, and finding Drivers for them,a major task.
Now I don't like to bash any software manufacturer, but I will point out the flaws where they are happening,Hence saving the newbie user a few stress filled moments while they are trying hard to get their computers (and their systems) up and running smoothly.Oddly,I made note that after many years of Microsoft's lack of security,Vista finally proved that with security hightened, drivers for all the gadgets we all love and enjoy every day, cease to operate. Why is this.. you ask? well,it is that with the device drivers being made has to adjust the KERNEL to adapt to the device. And with microsoft securing the KERNEL,The devices will not function.I would know this because I was one who tested Both Beta releases Of Vista . I still own the betas of vista. The only product I found handy was the backoffice the beta releases had to get assistance with the betas.Oddly enough, that was the only time Microsoft ever had the general public beta test the OS prior to
