The Houlden Report for 11-24-2008
The card in question is one that says it is for Vista.Designed for WinXP and Vista. However, research says it was developed for Win95,Win98,Win98SE,WinME.This Item Will Not work for Linux or any Linux distro.I have tried.there is no Linux support for any gadgets. They are all designed with Windows in mind. The open source community cannot find any drivers for this card.It seems about all devices only support Window$ and not Linux.
It seems as though if you do not have much money, you do not get the luxury of having any devices to further enjoy.Microshaft has taken the stronghold on that Market. The only devices that Linux is able to get working, were outcasted and discontinued by microshaft years ago.Example: I own a Xircom RealPort (RP-10) Lan Bus card.the device was used with microshaft with windblows 98 and ME but not with XP.. well the same device works great with Ubuntu 8.0 and Ubuntu 8.10 .Now,with a "Second Life" to the said device,it now shines in the ultimate glory running Free software and doesn't need Vista (as i call it.... Blister)and Xpee to work correctly. So,If you are running a Linux Distro of your choice and you want to look for the "Newest and hottest Gadgets",consider this: Drivers are not available for the device unless You are running Microshaft.
The drivers and support from the manufacturer of these gadgets only support Windblows and not Linux. It is a BIASED situation.Microshaft may not be purposely holding a Monopoly on the drivers. However, the gadget's manufacturer is Biased in the support that they give. They only give support for the gadget or device only if you are running Windblows OS..
This concludes this portion of the Houlden Report and this is the news from Mike's Tech Corner ....... Till next time..... enjoy!....
