The HOULDEN report for August 14,2017

Greetings and salutations to all new Blog Readers who managed to stumble into my little nitch of a blog.
It has come to my attention that Blogger has started shrinking in size in the realm of Google.Maybe I might be one of the last Bastions of a dying breed. Who knows?
It has been years since I traversed into the realm of Linux mint and I can say proudly that I am still with them. Most all of my machines use Linux mint.Only a few are still using windows 8.1,windows 7 and windows XP. Since 2014 When Microsoft finally Killed Off Windows XP,I have managed to keep the XP machines Off line.. and I use those to play old XP games when I am bored.I have 3 XP laptops offline and one Windows 7 and one windows 8.1 Laptop online,One Linux Mint laptop i use regularly and One Linux Mint Gaming rig I use all of the time.

Lately,I did Undergo a transformation from AT&T to Charter which ends My longstanding relationship with AT&T (9 years to be exact). I have found that AT&T jacks up the rates all while giving customers antiquated hardware and poor service. Charter Lent their equipment and in their contract, emphasized that I am not to move from my locale at any time or transfer the status of this equipment without their notice. Granted the service is better then AT&T. However,Unlike the situation in 2004 when charter allowed the customer to choose their equipment, they chose to bring their own equipment specially coded so that the customer cannot use their service without their equipment (ref.Page 3 paragraph 4).So,for the next 90 days,I am watching them to see if things improve and the bill stays lowered according to contract. If they fail, then I shall post a formal complaint with them and then the BBB to make certain they fulfill their end of contract.

These changes had allowed my internet speed to go as much as 60MPS (far cry then the usual 5MPS i was getting at AT&T) and showed the real speed my computers were able to do.
Even though the desktop Gamer rig is a Lame Jetway board,It manages to crack out the data amazingly fast and without adjusting the TCP/IP protocols ... so far so good.

Between this change and another (which was working as a care taker to an individual who was a chronic geographic drunk and a constant liar) i managed to still keep my wits about me.
Just a couple weeks ago I did get my BADAZZ TOSHIBA LAPTOP back. It was like a homecoming. A Laptop that has served in IRAQ in 2006 that was army issue.I purchased it for 50.00 in 2010 and i had taken it with me when I went to New York for a time.In 2014 I handed BADAZZ to my Maintenance man so he can use it online.Well that says it's story. That very machine is back with me and It isn't going anywhere. It Served well and now I Own it again.

I not only use my Facebook these days, but have gone into chats on a regular basis now. In EWC (Every Where Chat) you will Find me as DaShaggyRoo in the Adult Zone room.So now you know where I can be found there. In Hangouts,You will find me at mike.houlden@gmail.com (this goes for gmail, hangouts and Google+ . This shows that not only am I Busy,I too am everywhere.

I had a short list of gripes but I refuse to voice them at this time. Well I will voice at least one. Never become a care giver to a drunk. They will not only change your world, but mess up your life.Granted I did get paid well,But the sanity is far more important then the Financial aspirations.

One gadget I did get was an amazing Amazon Echo Dot.It has proven to be my most precious gadget. Inseparable. I get news and weather all on command. and all I have to do is command it (too bad many folks do not follow those same commands... id tell them to shut up lol). I wonder if a full robot can be built on control by Alexa. That would be nice to see happen.

In regards to the windows / linux wars, here is an update... Windows Down,Mac OS Down,Linux way up. windows 10 is a disaster,Mac OSX still hanging in there but more with cellphones with IOS then with Mac OS X and Linux is still the going game with android on smart phones,Linux Mint and Ubuntu still riding high and then all raspberry pi releases. This shows the new CEO at Microsoft that their windows product is mere crap.

It is safe to say right now Linux is in fact in the lead. If you recall in 2014 I did say it was a close race to see what OS will win.My bet was on Open Source Linux. And the easiest Linux distribution (according to distrowatch) is The latest rendering of linux mint 18.2. Ubuntu taking the second place.

This will conclude the HOULDEN report for this date August 14,2017
bye for now.... Mike
