Houlden Report 12 -19 2013

I know it has been Quite a while since i last posted. The intense race between Microsoft's getting in late on the tablet PC craze,Apple's complete dominance of the tablet market and android Linux following a very close second.I thin Microsoft has failed to succeed in that market.
What really is unnerving is how Windows Fans fail to see how simple Linux is to use. They would ask me 30 questions a day about how they can bypass a HDD Password on a windows based laptop. And throwing questions at me about using a "Post Card" on the "Mobo" to test everything.Well I have not been one to use a "Post Card" on any Mobo. Those who do not understand what Mobo is,it's abbreviated for Motherboard. The Post card was to test the Motherboard to see if everything was correctly working on it.While i was explaining things to this individual, they slammed me with another question. How can they reset the BIOS.Well for an old Hack like myself,I knew the old trick of removing the power through the CMOS causes the BIOS to go back to Defaults, therefore resetting the HDD password as well as the BIOS settings.

The other item of dispute was the fact he was a windows fan and was afraid to venture into the world of open source Linux distributions. The thought of using a Linux distribution (aka Distro) to format the HDD scared him.Well you would think that he being a young wiz-kid at a PC,would be brave enough to venture into Linux in order to bypass all of the hassles with a windows HDD,NOT!He was so scared he dropped his keyboard! This kid drove me nuts for days on this.I linked him the Ubuntu site and I told him time and again that linux format will fix the issue he had with the HDD.HDD. So,I told this guy all about the "Ancient Family secrets" about computers. All the work-arounds i gave this guy,he was such a windows Fan (and scared of himself),that it drove me nuts. This guy was always in my inbox trying to pick my brain with everything. After awhile,i began thinking that he was playing a cruel game.I had the feeling he already knew all the info but wanted to torture me with questions ,and then he would dispute my answers to his silly 30 questions.Through it all,i found it interesting that such a young man would even want to contest wits with an oldster such as myself.

The trick to resetting the BIOS is to remove all power (CMOS battery,AC cord, and if it is a laptop.. the battery) then after all of the power is disconnected, hit the power switch (to drain what power there is on the system-board),then re-attach Battery,CMOS Battery,AC cord, and then hit the power switch to turn it back on... it resets the BIOS to defaults.
Another fine trick from Linux is you can use a linux distro to format a windows HDD ,removing all HDD passwords and all DATA. It helps to always Back up your Data before you attempt to even format the DRIVE.

So,in conclusion, this kid already knew the answers but asked the questions because he needed the attention and i was the unwilling fool, lol.Well now that he and I are no longer in discussions,i have more time to write about it all in my reports. No worries,i did explain that i could not help him further, and i wished him well and sent him on his way never to talk with him again.....

This concludes the Houlden report for 12-19-2013 the last report of the year and the best way to close out the 2013 year..merry Christmas everyone..
